Fire Hydrant Wide Open In Residential Area

A fire hydrant was found wide open near the peak of oakridge drive
, across the street from a area known to nearby kids as "the Sandpit" or "Sand Land". when it was discovered the majority of the water was gushing through the air clear across the street and sidewalk onto a undeveloped lot which was made up of mainly sand. as you may know sand erodes VERY fast, especially when over 10 gallons a second are gushing over it. a large gash quickly eroded next to (and under) the sidewalk. when the water reached the metal exterior of a water meter the majority of the water went across the sidewalk into the street. a small amount of water spilled through the hole in the middle of the metal water meter cover. now of course as it was CONSTANTLY ERODING the water was about 1/3 sand-sediment and about 2/3 water. now the water, when it got to the drain, filled up the drain with sediment within the first minute so that between the sand and the bottom of the grate there was about two inch clearance. Now where would all that water go? well, most of the sand was either dropped in the drain or built up on the road so by now the water is about 1/6 sand\sediment and 5/6 water.so the water now is able to go merely across the street into the storm drain on that side. Now only about half of the water crossed the street in time to go in that drain. the rest merely went down the hill to the next storm-drain down the hill.
